The Old Laundry, Sturston Hall lies 1 mile from Ashbourne, a small market town with many antique shops, specialist food shops, pubs, wine bars and restaurants.

Sturston Hall is situated in beautiful rolling countryside, down a long narrow lane which leads to Sturston Mill,  mentioned in the Domesday Book, and the famous Royal Shrovetide Goal. The lane goes no further than the goal and the mill on the Henmore Brook. Five minutes walk away is Bradley Woods, an ancient woodland bequeathed to the people of the Town of Ashbourne. There are beautiful walks at all times of year, but in particular in May, when the woods are full of bluebells.

The famous stepping stones across the river Dove at Dovedale are 10 minutes drive away. Thorpe Cloud, Milldale and Dovedale provide stunning scenery and good walking. Tissington village and Hall are close by. Tissington is renowned for the Ascension Day Well Dressings. Tissington Hall, a family home owned by Sir Richard FitzHerbert, is open to the public during the summer months.

There are many National Trust properties within easy reach such as Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall with it's Museum of Childhood, Hardwick Hall and Ilam Country Park.  Other great houses of England  within easy reach of the Old Laundry are Calke Abbey,  Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Children especially enjoy the adventure playground and farmyard at Chatsworth. Alton Towers theme park is only 20 minutes drive and very popular with teenagers and younger children.

Also nearby is Carsington Water which provides opportunities for walking, cycling, (cycle hire available at Carsington Water) sailing, fishing, windsurfing, a good restaurant with views across the Water, interesting shops and a free and very informative exhibition about "Water". Good for children.

The Peak District has many other attractions including places to explore off the beaten track such as prehistoric stone circles, caves and caverns.
